Kanban System Design (KSD)

NextUp’s Kanban System Design (KSD) training is a highly interactive two-day class accredited by Kanban University that helps students excel at designing and implementing Kanban systems. Students will become familiar with the fundamentals of Kanban by participating in an engaging and collaborative board game in which teams will compete to maximize value by optimizing workflow. The class, which includes elements of lecture and classroom discussion, will challenge students to develop and refine their own Kanban plan to drive decisions and improve work performance.

What You Will Learn

Students will learn the Kanban method and how to create a system that works for their unique needs.

Day 1: Kanban in Action
  • Key elements of a Kanban system: commitment points, work item types, classes of service, policies, cadences
  • Kanban system mechanics: pull, replenishment, delivery
  • Key Kanban system indicators: lead time, cumulative-flow diagram
Day 2: The Systems Thinking Approach to Introducing Kanban
  • Kanban case study
  • Creating context for change
  • Demand analysis
  • Workflow visualization
  • Discovering and designing classes of service
  • Replenishment and delivery cadence
  • Kanban system visualization
Certification

Upon completion of the class, students will receive a certificate of completion. In order to receive the Kanban Management Professional (KMP) credential, students must complete the second course in the Kanban University foundations track: Kanban Systems Improvement (KSI).
